The Flint Festival of Writers Announces 2019 Featured Author LaTashia Perry
The Flint Festival of Writers is pleased to announce acclaimed children’s author and Flint resident LaTashia Perry as its 2019 featured speaker.
Perry is the author of the Kids Like Mine series of books and the creator of the 4 Kids Like Mine brand, both aimed at empowering black and brown children to value and love themselves as they are through positive self-images.
Perry’s work has been featured in People magazine, and two of her books—Hair Like Mine and Skin Like Mine—have been translated into French. Perry has also been invited to Washington D.C. to discuss her work with the Congressional Black Caucus.
A graduate of Flint Southwestern Academy, Perry is a wife and mom of five. She says her hope is to leave each and every person she encounters “with the tools needed to love themselves as they were created; unconditionally and unapologetically.”
Perry will read from her work at 5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 14 at The Ferris Wheel at 615 S. Saginaw St. in downtown Flint. Her reading will be followed by a time for questions and answers, as well as an opportunity to meet the author and purchase her books.
The Flint Festival of Writers is a two-day event held in locations throughout Flint, Michigan, to celebrate writers and writing in the greater Flint area. The Festival’s mission is to support the literary tradition and writing done in and about Flint by cultivating dynamic resources and experiences for Flint writers and readers.
