Featured reader Stephanie Carpenter will lead a session on writing historical fiction and read from her work, Missing Persons, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 27th at the Flint Public Library. Attendees will hear how “objects and documents can help us to imagine or uncover stories at the margins of the historical record.” She will also share ideas on utilizing research from Flint resources.
Carpenter is an award-winning fiction writer and former University of Michigan- Flint creative writing professor. During her tenure at UM-Flint, she advised the student publication Qua Literary and Fine Arts Magazine during its resurgence as a prominent fixture on campus for students and within the community. Carpenter’s work as writing professor often intermingled with Flint and its history through organizing student-led literary walking tours of downtown Flint or assembling a student panel of Flint writers for a literary conference. She currently teaches creative writing and literature at Michigan Tech University.
Stephanie Carpenter holds an MFA from Syracuse University and a PhD in English and Creative Writing from the University of Missouri. Her work has been published in The Missouri Review, Witness, Nimrod, Big Fiction, and The Crab Orchard Review.
